SPOTLIGHT ON: Hannah Bergin
Introducing Hannah Bergin, our third brand ambassador for 2019-2020! Hannah gave us a little peek into her dance history and shared some of her thoughts on mindset and creativity, and her plans for her future.
Tell us a little bit about your dance training so far: Where and when you started out and where you have trained?
When I was four, I started ballet with the Irish Ballet School in Swords as this is where my mom went to ballet. My mom became a ballet teacher and opened Coastal Ballet School and I continued classes with her. I was a member of the Dublin Youth Dance Company: I began in the junior company and when I was ready, moved up to their senior company. Being in the company helped me make my decision to have a career in dance. I studied for a year in Holland and then decided I wanted to move to the UK and continue my degree. I attended The Scottish School of Contemporary Dance where I achieved my Higher National Certificate (HNC). During the year I was successful at audition and was offered a place in the London Contemporary Dance School.
What do you love most about dancing?
What I love most about dancing is that I can be who I want to be. I can create my own aura and mood just by being in a creative headspace. I also love the determination that you must bring to dance. I enjoy working hard and also repeating movement in order to find new movements that attach to it.
What has been your favourite dance-related moment in your career so far?
So far… maybe dancing in Rimini, Italy with Dublin Youth Dance Company on an open stage. It was a moment I will never ever forget.
What made you apply for the ambassador programme?
I applied because I want to show dancers like myself that dance is enjoyable and that a career in dance can be a reality. I want to inspire others to dance or pursue a professional career in contemporary dance.
What one piece of advice would you like to give to younger dancers?
Stay open-minded to everything in dance and in life. Without the environment around us now, a lot of really great pieces would not be created.
What does the future hold for you?
Hopefully a BA Hons in Contemporary Dance and after that I don’t know for sure, but I’ll stay open-minded to anything that comes my way.
What is your favourite Dance World product?
So far I have been obsessed with the Ballet Rosa Mesh Top, I have two and I wear them under and over everything!!!!
