Reinforced Leather Grips – Construction & Fit

The key difference between Elite Protec and standard leather grips is the reinforced laminate construction. Its resistance to stretching makes it an option to discuss with your coach when considering a different grip feel for regular training.

Choose the model and size with your gymnastics coach. Measure from the base of the palm to the tip of the middle finger, then consult the size guide for these grips. Select by hand measurement and fit rather than age.

The finger holes should sit only as far as the first knuckle from the fingertips on the middle and ring fingers. Have your coach check the finger placement and wrist fastening before using the grips on the apparatus.

Preparing Your Reisport Grips for Training

Allow time to prepare the grips and become familiar with their feel before competition. Follow Reisport’s preparation instructions: do not use water to soften the leather, cut the dowel or use knives or scissors to enlarge the finger holes.

Inspect the grips before every use and stop using them if any component is damaged.

Dance World Tip: Prepare a spare pair before you need it. Reisport recommends keeping a backup pair of broken-in grips, so replacements do not have to be introduced for the first time on competition day.
