Zara Velvet Ballet Skirt - Short Pull-On Signature Style

Bodile women's sizing uses overlapping size ranges from XXS/XS through L/XL. For the most reliable fit, compare your bust, waist, hip and torso-length measurements rather than converting directly from everyday clothing size. For leotards, torso length is particularly useful when deciding between two overlapping sizes.
Bodile Ladies Dancewear Size Chart
Compare bust, waist, hips and torso length to find your best starting size. Bodile sizes intentionally overlap, so more than one size may suit some body measurements.

Bodile's size ranges intentionally overlap. If your bust, waist or hips comfortably fit two sizes, use torso length as an important deciding measurement for leotards. A longer torso may feel more comfortable in the larger overlapping size, while a shorter torso may suit the smaller option.
How to Measure for Bodile Dancewear
Measure over underwear or close-fitting dancewear using a flexible tape measure. Stand naturally and keep the tape comfortably against the body without pulling it tight.

Torso Length
Key Leotard MeasurementFollow Bodile's measuring diagram and measure the length of the torso vertically down the body. Keep the tape straight and close to the body without pulling it tight.
Bodile calls this measurement Torso Length. It should not be substituted with the full shoulder-through-crotch girth loop commonly used by some other dancewear brands.
Bust
Measure around the fullest part of the bust, keeping the tape straight and level around the body without compressing it.
Waist
Measure around the natural waist, usually the narrowest part of the torso. Keep the tape level and comfortably close to the body.
Hips
Measure around the fullest part of the hips and seat while standing naturally. Keep the tape level all the way around.
Height
Stand straight without shoes, with feet flat on the floor, and measure from the floor to the top of the head.
Height is not included in Bodile's women's size table, but it can be useful when considering overall body proportions alongside torso length.
Bodile women's sizes are intentionally grouped into overlapping ranges: XXS/XS, XS/S, S/M, M/L and L/XL. This gives dancers flexibility when choosing their preferred fit. Use all four published body measurements together, with torso length particularly useful for fitted leotards. Where two sizes overlap, consider both body length and how close you prefer your dancewear to feel.
Our first BODILE collection is available to pre-order. Orders begin shipping from 6 November 2026.

Add a soft velvet finish to your class outfit with the Bodile Zara velvet ballet skirt. Part of the Signature collection, this short pull-on design has a slim silhouette and a curved hem that rises at the sides. Wear it over your favourite leotard or pair with Bella for a coordinated look. Zara runs large; Bodile recommends sizing down if you are between sizes.
Best For: Ballet class • Rehearsal styling • Short skirt silhouettes • Velvet outfit combinations • Pairing with Bella
Why Dancers Love the Bodile Zara Skirt
- A touch of velvet: The soft, plush fabric brings texture and depth to a familiar leotard-and-tights outfit.
- A neat ballet line: The short, slim cut keeps fabric volume low, with curved sides leaving more of the upper legs visible.
- Easy pull-on styling: A smooth waistband makes Zara straightforward to slip over your leotard before class or rehearsal.
- A natural Bella pairing: Wear with the Bella Signature leotard to repeat the velvet texture through your outfit.
Soft Stretch Velvet & a Curved Ballet Hem
Zara is a short, slim-cut SAB-style ballet skirt, with a gently rounded hem through the front and back. The hem rises at each side, creating an open upper leg line and a compact silhouette around the hips.
The stretch velvet - 90% nylon and 10% elastane — combines a plush surface with flexible drape. Its soft sheen adds interest to simple studio outfits, while the short cut allows gentle movement without the volume of a fuller rehearsal skirt.
A smooth pull-on waistband completes this Australian-designed style. Wear it at the waist or lower on the hips to change the proportions. Zara provides a short layer around the hips and upper thighs and is designed to be worn over a separate leotard.
Zara Skirt Sizing Advice & Studio Styling
Zara runs large. Check both your waist and hip measurements against the Bodile size chart. The brand recommends sizing down if you fall between sizes. Try the waistband at your preferred height, as its position affects where the short hem sits.
For a coordinated outfit, pair Zara with the Bodile Bella Signature leotard and ballet tights. Choose complementary shades from the current range to connect the velvet bodice and skirt, or wear Zara with a smooth leotard to highlight the change in texture.
If you enjoy changing your skirt silhouette, Mika offers sheer mesh and adjustable ruching, while Julieta brings a fuller, flowing rehearsal shape.
Dance World Tip: Try Zara over the leotard you plan to wear, then move through a few familiar ballet steps. Check that the waistband stays comfortable and that you like the coverage at the higher side hems.
